steering wheel

this is my problem, i have a 89 gta with radio controled steering wheel,it seems my steering is kind of loose and there is a bolt not properly screwed in right, what i want to know is how do i get the plastic covers off after i have removed the steering wheel, so i can get to the bolt and screw it in right. if someone has a diagram it would be helpful,thanks, gm hombre.

Hombre,

It sounds like your tilt mechanism is loose in the lower bowl of the column. Search the archives for Loose Tilt Wheel and see what you discover. You should be able to find threads with complete instructions.

vader you are right,when i tilt the steering i can see the loose bolt,i got the bolt in but i have to tighten good so it doesn't come loose again,i'll check archives,thanks again vader.

Instead of just tightening them, remove them one at a time, apply some thread locking compound (like Loctite 242) and install it. Move on to the next one until all four are done.
