oil pressure

I've got a 305 TBI and i just rebuilt the engine and added a ton of mods. The car is running now but the oil pressure is way too low. I found a leak in the intake manifold which was adding coolant to the oil so i drained the oil and resealed the manifold with new gaskets. I thought I solved the problem by removing the coolant from the oil but it didn't seem to work. There is no visible leak in the intake and no visible leak of oil from the pan or valve covers, yet the pressure is still very low. I bought a new high flow oil pump so that shouldn't be the problem. Also I don't think the sending unit is bad because when the gauge in the dash indicates low pressure, the engine starts running worse. I don't understand what the problem is. If someone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

put a mechanical gauge on the engine to see what you really have. did you use some sort of positive retention method for the pick up tube, like welding it? did you remove any plugs and not replace them? it could have an internal oil leak.

i just got the mechanical guage today and i still need to put it on, but i didnt weld the pick up tube. I just used the stock sleeve. As for the plugs, i replaced all when the engine was out. Could it have anything to do wit the bearings?

I was doing a search on how to do bearings and came across your problem. Yes, that's very likely to be bearings. I've got a ford gran torino elite w/ a 400 that wasn't getting much presssure, I put in a high volume oil pump, and I was still only getting 7 to 9 lbs. I should be getting around 20. Otherwise it was running fine. Anyways, now I don't really have any pressure, and the motor runs loud. Not that I'm driving it like that. I've been told by a few ppl that the bearings are probably wore. Maybe my oil pump went bad, but it's only got like 50 miles on it, so I doubt it. Anyways, sounds like bearings, and I don't know how to do em.
