Bad Cam?
My 83 Z (305 carb/5-speed) has been cracking back through the carb for a little while...Tried the normal stuff like plugs and wires, cap. New d/r timing chain...still as bad as ever. Undriveable.
So I figured I has a dead cylinder, or an intake valve sticking...Yesterday I pulled the wires one at a time to find the offensive one, and the winner is...number 6. Pulled the valve covers and watched the operation. The intake valve moves, but only a little....maybe .25".
So now I figured I have a bad lifter or cam...Off comes the intake and all the rest of the front of the engine...rad/shroud...
I was ready to pull the front cover, and lost my energy...
Sound correct? Just checking...this thing has been bugging me all winter...Any recs on the cam...305 carb/5speed/open 3:08 rear...not looking for a race car, just some fun...
Sorry for the long post....
Any and ALL help appreciated...

82-83 were bad years for Camaro cams. Mine went almost completely flat before I replaced it. A friend of mine was telling me that Chevy had a batch of cams that got a insufficient parkinazation (sp?) processing (chemical surface hardening).
Don't remember what cam I installed. (It was over 10 years ago).
I'd call Comp Cams and see what they recommend...
