Engine block dating Question
Engine block dating Question
How's it going everyone, for once in a long while I'm asking a question! Well I just picked up a new 350 block to rebuild and I'm having a small problem, I don't know the damn year of the engine! I picked it up off a guy for 100.00 bucks, so I couldn't pass up the dael, the black is in great shape and just got back from the mach. shop, but I would really like to know the date for my own records. The guy "believes that it came out of a 79 camaro." Which does me no good. So what I really need is a list that breaks down the casting number on the block and heads, if such a list exsists. Thanks again in advance!

www.mortec.com You need the VIN number off the block for the year, though.

Post the casting number and date code. It's easy to decode.
Not that it makes even the slightest difference.... nothing about 350s changed by year, until the dipstick change in the early 80s. You don't need to decide casting dates to find out about that.

Dinner and a movie used to be a safe bet, but times have changed. Besides, not sure you'd want to date an older block...
