What type of connector does your GAUGE coolant sending unit have?

I'm replacing all of the coolant sensors on my car and I've come across an interesting connector on the gauge sending unit (located in the driver's-side cylinder head). It has a little round nub and the wire slides on at a 90-degree angle onto the sending unit. Is that how it's supposed to be? The connector on the wire looks like it should slide onto a single prong, like the connector on the fan blower motor. This seems a little hokey for GM.

My 86 TRANSAM has the blade type like you describe, not like the picture. When I replaced my sending unit a while back, my parts man asked me which type I had as he had both types on hand. Also note there is a sending unit for an idiot light, and another for a temp gage. So there are 4 types of sending units available.

That sending unit is pretty standard for a gauge.

I appreciate everyone's reply. I went to the parts store yesterday to pick up a new sending unit because the old one was shot. Apparently the third-party company (GP Sorensen) changed their design -- it has the blade-type connector.
