l69 heads=416's?

My buddy has a t/a.Not sure on the year.Around an 85 I think. It was originally a 305/5 speed. He says it was an l69.I forgot to look.

Anyway I gave him 50 bucks for the heads. Are they any good.I read on here that these are 416's.I am going to check out a place tommorow that is a performance head service.I was going to have them port and polish them, mill them, screw in studs and guideplates.

How well would these work on a 350.The mods are in my sig.*** I hope these are good.he is supposed to pull them off here soon.

Port them up a little and put in bigger valves, and your 350 will run nice!

Assuming they are in fact 416 castings they will work well if
modded properly. They will need full porting (not just a pocket port). Use1.94 x1.60 valves. You need to unshroud the chambers some to fit the valves too. Avoid milling the decks a lot or the compression ratio could get too high. (on a flat top motor).
If yours is a dished piston motor, knock yourself out.
Screwin studs and guide plates are unnessessary. Just have the stud bosses drilled and pinned.
Hiperf valve springs are a plus.

If the heads are thouroughly max ported with the larger valves
you should see about 380/390 gross hp with your combination.

Usually it it not economicly possible to get the heads fully ported
for a reasonable price. ($too many hours$) Better to port them yourself, then take them in for the machine work. It's not hard to do, just time consuming.

The motor is a stock shortblock. There is little to no ring ridge at all.So to save a little cash I decided to keep it the stock bore.I will rebuild it maybe next winter.

Thanks for the info. Those numbers are what I was looking for.I plan on running an RPM air gap and hedman 1 5/8 headers into 2 1/2 inch exhaust with flowmaster.

Know I just got to get on the guy to get the heads to me!

To save money you MUST do the porting and polishing yourself! It is not hard, either

Just follow the link at the end of my sig and be sure to let me know if I can help
