Strange light issue.

I posted this in the Electronics board and I'm getting no where. I need to see if I can get any answers.

Ok, here's the situation. This morning I get into my car and I noticed that the dome light did not come on. With that I figured the fuse for the accessories was blown. After testing all the accessories worked, ie power mirrors, seat, hatch release. So I check anyways and all the fuses are fine. So I go on and try to go to work. After starting the car I turned the headlights on and nothing. They won't even turn on. Yet the strange part is that the brake lights will work and if I armed my alarm, the parking lights would flash. After messing with it for about 5 minutes, the parking lights will not flash now with the alarm.

So my question is what would cause it to where none of the lights, internal or external, will not come on? I need to get this fixed by this weekend. Thanks all.

Eric

Ok so it's been a few days and nobody has any clues huh? Well just to add to it, none of my accessories work either(power mirrors and door locks). I was replacing the headlight switch to be sure that wasn't it and it wasn't. So after checking all the fuses, and them being fine, I have no clue on what the problem is now. Any help would be helpful.

Thanks,
Eric

Sounds like one of your 2 fusible links is blown.

Thanks for that. I'll check and see what I can come up with.

Cra-Z,

I think there are several ideas, but since you have an alarm system, there are way too many wildcards. Personally, I hate alarm systems. Most people ignore them. Go to a crowded parking lot, set off you panic alarm, and see how many people respond. They might be great for theft deterrence, but I truly wonder if they only give a false sense of security. The hack-jobs that installers create of factory wiring harnesses is usually a nightmare. That may have scared a few of us away.

I would start by inspecting the alarm installation first. Since the load relays interrupt the factory lighting harnesses, and probably the ignition circuits, I'd be really suspicious of the system and installation.

I had a similar problem. Make sure you have a really really good connection on your positive battery terminal. I very slightly cross threaded that terminal and my car did the same thing yours did. i took the terminal off and screwed it properly and tightly and everything worked fine. May want to check this first since it;s easy and free.

Well I just wanted to say thanks to Willie and RB83L69. They had figured out where the problem was.

After rechecking everything I decided to check all the fuses, again. All were fine, but I still felt the problem was there. So I tested the fuses themselves with a test light. I found my problem. THe accessories, tail lights and some other fuses were not getting power, the rest were. So, I got under the car to check the fuseable links on the starter. After jiggling the wires, I realized I left a tool in the car. Got out and all the lights were working. Ends up being the problem is the connection to the starter. So it looks like I'm going to end up doing some wire work ASAP. Thanks for all the suggestions and I'm glad that I now have lights for the drive to work in the dark.

Thanks again to everybody,
Eric
