Oil pan gasket change, or no?
Hey all. I just installed a new timing chain and I'm ready to put the cover on. I am going to try to drop the pan just enough to seat the cover, reusing the old gasket. Trouble is, the oil pan doesn't seem willing to disconnect from the block (all the bolts are out as is the y-pipe). I have the feeling that I will be unable to drop the pan without damaging the gasket (via prying, pulling, whacking, praying, cursing). If I want to raise the engine using the wood block technique, are there only those two (one each side) bolts for the motor mounts? Or do I need to start removing additional suspension parts?

The 2 bolts that run front to back on the motor mounts are all that needs to be removed to raise the eng.
Be carefull abt the distributor cap hitting the firewall.
Check for ground straps (and etc) getting stretched.
There's been talk on this board abt grinding off part of the lip on the timing chain cover so it can be re-installed without disturbing the oil pan seal too much. Haven't tried it myself.

Thanks ZZ. First I'm going to try to drop the pan just enough to seat the cover. If that isn't working I'm going to raise the motor. I'm sure the gasket is the original one and changing it is probably a good idea anyway.
The motor is very apart anyway (everything above and including the intake manifold), so lifting the motor shouldn't be too difficult. Although, I'd like to not have to do it.
