engine blocks. 305 vs 350

This is probably the mother of all noob questions, but do 305's and 350's share a similar engine block, with bore and stroke differences, or are they completely different animals.

I was pretty sure they were totally different untill a drag racer freind of mine told me he thought otherwise.

Thanks for any help clearing this up.

They are exactly the same, only different.

The only difference is their bore. The 305 bore is 3.736", teh 350 bore is 4.000". There's nowhere near enough metal to turn a 305 into a 350.

The blocks are different castings, with different bores.

You can't make a 350 out of a 305.

The stroke is the same.

Yup..... bass ackwards

Chevy made a cool 302 with a 4" bore and a 3" stroke, but the infamous 350 was the big seller (for obvious reasons).

HamsterOnaMission,

If you go to www.mortec.com you can look up all the small block Chevy bore/stroke combos http://www.mortec.com/borstrok.htm
