1987-1992 Camaro Convertible Owners
Hello,
I was wondering who here owns a Convertible (years 1987-1992). What model, engine (factory engine) and transmission (factory trans.) you have in the car.
Please only replies for those who have the factory engine and factory transmission.
Thanks for your time

Yes, you can get IROC-Z Convertibles with 5-speed Manual transmissions.

yeah I figured a TPI one would be more desireable for obvious reasons but from the sound of the questions above it sounded like my car's setup was quite rare.
Because Miller90iroc said he didn't think you could get a convertible with a 5-speed and it was answered that you could get Iroc convertibles with 5-speeds and since mine isn't an iroc I thought it might have been rare, see where I'm going with this (probably sounds kinda crazy)

ah gotcha, I understand your reasoning. But yes you could get both IROC and RS 5spd's as you've indicated. Z28 5 spd cars were also available, i know Willie has only 1 or 2 unofficially documented 87 Z28 Vert 5spd cars.
You couldnt get a 305 TPI with a 5 speed except for 1987. That's really rare because it requires G92.
You could get a TBI motor with a 5-speed in either an IROC or RS. The IROC-Z vert with a 5-speed is much more rarer than the RS. That's what I had til I sold it for an even more rare car.

The 5.0 V8 305 TPI engine came STANDARD with the 5-speed manual transmission. Automatic was optional.
This is specified in all the books I own (13), Brochures, (over $300 worth) online resources, and even Restoration Kits. The 5-speed Manual Transmission was pretty much the standard and Automatic was optional for most all engines.
I have posted this message on a number of message boards and have a large number of people reporting to have 5.0 V8 305-cid engines with 5-speed transmissions as factory stock cars.
Perhaps I have misunderstood your reply.

AFAIK you could get convertibles with TPI and 5spd every year. I know/knew people with 92, 91 and like 89 5 spd 305 TPI verts.
Now G92 verts, i don't think those were made outside of 87. I'm sure they didnt do it in the later years.

So far theres only been two people in total that have reported on here with a 5-speed and both have TBI (one was me). So maybe someone with a 305 TPI and a 5 speed will speak up. I have yet to see one in person myself and wouldn't mind seeing some pics of a 89-92
Maybe could you possibly direct me to another forum where you have posted this and people have replied with 305 TPI 5 speed combinations? Last edited by iroc22; Apr 10, 2003 at 09:38 PM.
