Dizzy & rotor distance

I was checking the condition of the dizzy cap and rotor and found peaks on each of the 8 electrodes inside the cap. This is probably caused by the spark jumping from the arm to the electrode. I checked the distance the rotor end was from each each electrode and it was 4.5 mm. This seems huge like a huge gap for the spark to jump. The cap and rotor are made by 'Standard' and are quiet new. I have a mallory dizzy on another 350 and the rotor end to the electrode is less than 1mm. The dizzy is in my 350 91 camaro and is stock. Is 4.5mm standard or have I got a poor quality cap and rotor?
