Got passed by a acura 3.2 tl..need advice and some guidence
basically let me say first off i changed my spark plugs b/c they were shot. i replace all but 6 and 8 cyclinder.
anyway we went down a straight road and i was pulling away till 3rd gear then it stumbled alittle then after that i shifted to 4th. at about 4k rpms he passed me like nothing.then i just shut it down after i got passed. I am so heated.
do you think 2 bad spark plugs could have made my car slower?
what do these cars run in 1/4 and 0-60?
also what does it take for an L98 to beat them?
any idea/suggestion appericated.

For starters, change #6,8 plugs. As for mods, the usual, cam, heads, exhaust, intake...
Post in the theoretical board next time.

my moms boyfriend has one of the new 6 speed tl's and its pretty damn fast. I think they do mid to low 14's. Oh, and the power band os completly different then your V8's, theyre all top end power and not much low end torque.

Don't post something like this on the Street Racing board, this is the right place.
Change the spark plugs obviously and I'd go to a track and see where your car is at, or even a G-Tech if there is no track close. You sound like in all good condition you should be in the low 14's at least.

I have raced one of them on a number of occasions and I will say they are fast cars. He beat me a couple of times when starting from a dead stop because I just spun the tires. In a 1/4 mile I beat him pretty easily. He runs mid to low 14's at the track. I am running upper thirteens. I would think you should be beating him since you have a 350. I have a 305 TPI though. I agree with IROCTWENTYGR8, changing the #6 and #8 plugs should be done.

If your spark plugs were shot, why didn't you change #6 and 8? It seems that you found your spark plugs to be in need of changing and yet you didn't change them all; kinda silly don't you think? Dig in the cushions of your sofa and find the $4 to buy yourself two more spark plugs and then if there's still a problem, we can start from there.
You should always beat him off the line... As for in the long run, it's hard to say.. The TL is more than 10 years younger than your car.. It should be fast.. whether it's faster than your car, who's to say...
Good luck,

Sounds like your catalytic converter might be plugged. Normal for these cars, even after as little as 50K miles. Also, do a complete tuneup. Have you done the fuel pressure trick? Does that honestly work?

I haven't changed the plugs out cause it has been crappy weather and i have to get on the ground to do it. I raced him down like over a mile long straight road. I pulled away from him about a car length but after a mile he blew right by me.
anyway i have a more gph fuel pump im putting in. My cat is probably shot to. does that make a big deal in perfromance?
also what is the fuel pressure trick?
I will change the plugs when it gets nice. Here in NY in the last week it has rained and snowed.

The everyday 3.2tl should be an easy kill. The Type S is another story they are designed to beat Beemers over 50mph take one for a test drive and hit it at 40-50mph see how fast you get to 125mph. Not much out of the hole but great at hiway.
Here is the fuel pressure trick. It is on this site under the engine tech articles. Looks like 50 psi on a stock motor is a winner! GM left a LOT of untapped performance in these cars. I figured a 22 lb. injector was a little on the small side at 42 psi.
Q: What fuel pressure setting will give me the best performance?
A: The stock setting is 42 PSI. Much track testing has showed that any type of increase will greatly benefit both horse power and torque. Here's some dyno testing on a stock 350 motor which substantiates those claims:
42 PSI (stock) 46 PSI 50 PSI

I don't know how much I believe that. GM stock tune is overly rich to begin with, how does richening it up more give gains?

Im running a carb anyway. So that doesn't apply to me.
I don't know if it was the type-s. But new im starting to lose faith in the camaro. every year new cars get faster and faster. Either I need to do more mods or just go get an SS.
