reseting ECM
is there a way to reset the ECM WITHOUT disconnecting the battery for 15 mins? I'm getting tired of teaching it my driving style each time and having to reset my setting on my radio all the time...
can you just jump the ALDL somehow to do it?

Part of "reseting" the ECM means re-learning fuel trim strategies (driving style and such). YOu cannot get around this. But as for the radio, just pull the ECM fuse nextime, and the radio will not loose its memory. On some cars, there is a red lean with a one-cavity connector coming from the battery cable near the battery, this is ECM power, and just disconnecting the connector for 15min will reset the ECM.
P.S. if you are just wanting to clear codes, a scantool can clear them for you, but on older models, you have to disconnect ECM power anyway.

Re: reseting ECM
GMTech,
This morning I posted a thread about high idle after dropping the car in gear. I reset the IAC and while it's running it's fine. As soon as I shut it down and restart it, the idle goes up to 1800 RPM for a brief moment and drops down to about 1000 RPM. Put it in gear and the idle drops to about 600 RPM and then the IAC takes over and you can feel the engine trying to accelerate. It seems like shutting the car off cancels everything I just did. Would resetting the ECM make a difference if I tried that?
