Ok here we go.

No leaks, fluid level is fine. Car drives great, even when it's whining. After the car gets to operating temperature, the power steering whines like a bastard. I did not blees the system until the next day after I had driven about 15 city miles. I think I may have partially burned up the pump. I have an extra one.

Could it be something else? I thought at first that I connected the wrong hoses to the wrong ports on the gearbox, but the guys on this site said it can only be done one way.

there isn't much left after you replace the lines and gear box except the pump.

Replace the return hose(s).... if the system has a leak there, it will admit air, which will make it whine.

It's not a 1 piece unit though, is it? Mine has fuel line used between the fittings. Maybe when it's getting hot and the fluid thins out there is a tiny air leak where one of the screw claps is, I'll tighten them up.

Edit: if there was a leak, wouldn't fluid be dripping out of it? There are no fluid leaks whatsoever. I de-greased the whole thing under there after I did the swap because it was pretty dirty. There appears to be no fluid on the cleans engine bay.
