2.8l to 5.0l/5.7l
I have the 2.8mpfi engine in my 86 firebird and i want to put a 305 or 350 in it. I have found a 305TPI and I just need to know if i would have to mess with the injectors and fuel lines to make the conversions?? Or could i just bolt it in and go?
I 've thought about the same thing! I have a 91 3.1 and MAYBE someday convert it to a V8( I already have a 350 4 bolt).
The Injection is a tricky thing. I know that you will need the fuel hardware thats on the engine(injectors, fuel rails, plenium, etc,)
A wiring harness and computer(V8 of course) along with all the plumbing(exhaust manifolds, hoses, etc)
I'm not sure but you may need a bigger radiator for more cooling. Also, your front springs will need to be changed to handle the added small block weight!
If possibly, hunt up a wrecked car and get the entire thing so that you have everything that you need. I CAN be a pain in the @$$( which is why I haven't started yet).

91 Firebird v6(not much longer)

I agree with PowerHawk... find a clapped out V8 f-body (the newer the better for the intake area), and rebuild the motor while you drive the 6 around. Then take a week off of work, and a week outta your social life
and switch everything over. While you're at it, clean up the Firebird's engine bay too...
The only bonus you get is if you buy a v8 with TPI injection, the v6 MPFI motor uses the same in-tank fuel pump as the v8 TPI. (V8 TBI uses a lower pressure pump.) At least you don't have to drop the tank down!
Oh duh, didn't notice you had found a TPI motor already. In that case, you won't have to rebuild the v8 donor car's motor..
