i have a 86 firebird, 2.8 litre, 5 speed manual. i want to put a 305 in it, i want to know what all i will need to do this (ex.tranny, wires, mounts,drive shaft,or anything else) if anyone has done this please email me

Engine: L92/LQ4 (both w/4" stroke)
Transmission: 4L80E/4L80E
Axle/Gears: 12B-3.73/9"-3.89
Many posts exist on this topic, plus a tech article.
You'll need V-8: tranny, flywheel and clutch; wiring harnes;, computer; front engine mounts; air cleaner; front brake line; radiator; radiator fan; throttle cable; cruise control cable; front springs; accessory brackets; hoses; exhaust from engine to bumper. I'm probably forgetting something. Oh, if you go from MPFI to carb, you'll need a fuel pressure regulator.
2nd best way to do this: Find a totaled factory V-8 car and get all these parts from it.
1st best way: Sell your V-6 car and buy a factory V-8 car.
Sorry to be a wet blanket, but it is a lot of work, takes a lot of time, and will be more expensive than just buying a V-8 car. You've got to really love your car's body to do this.

57 Bel Air, my 1st car. Currently 396 .030 over, Weiand Action+, Edelbrock 1901 Q-Jet, Jacobs Omnipack, 1-3/4" headers, TH400 w/TCI Sat Night Special conv & shift kit, 3.08 10-bolt, AMSOIL syn lubes bumper-to-bumper. Best 15.1 @ 5800' Bandimere. Daily driver while Camaro was being put together.
