Temp sensor and chip fan activation

I have a 305 TBI 91 RS and the fan is wired to always come on with the ignition but that isn't what I want. I have a hypertech thermo chip in and headers and such. Does the chip control the fan so it goes on at 170 or does the chip figure you'll wire the fan to go on with ignition? I already tapped into the stock fan wire but I have a relay and switch to turn it on just in case. Please help, I don't want to forget one morning to turn the fan switch on but I don't want the fan to cool the engine and never let it warm up in the winter.
Thanks, Jon (91 RS too many mods to list)

My chip controls my fan on/off. Should be the same on yours. I've also got a manual switch wired into the fans, but I only use that switch at the track.
