This is not my car.. its a buddy..
71 camaro with 700-4r and 3.42 gear
383-less than 15K miles.
AFR195s
Airgap
stout hydroller with AFR hydrev.
34degrees total avd.
Goes 6000 and then hits some kind of rev limit. MSD has an 8K chip (for testing). Distributor and MSD have been replaced. Going to try zero lashing valves and removing alternator (incase it has some dead short).

Did you try dropping in the 3K chip to check weather or not it's the rev limiter your hitting.
I've had fuel delivery problems that would limit my rpm's at or close to the same rpm - everytime.

Still got the stock AFR valve springs?
Throw them in the trash. Get some decent springs. Tell him to quit testing his rev limiter, before he breaks one and drops a valve!

I think they are the stock afr 195 springs.. but, a 355 I put together with a comp HR306 (244-.600) would go 7000 with a afr hydrarev kit and the stock springs.
i will ask him.

Why are you revving the **** out of your engine anyways? Are you testing to see how much it will take before it fragments. 383's aren't able to rev as high as other engines anyways. The have more rotating mass as can't spin as fast. You shouldn't try to see how far you can take it.
but, 6000 is really not too high. The GM 383 crate motor has a 6000rpm red line and it uses powered metal rods (where this motor is an H beam hi-dollar bottom end).
I also know someone that has a I beam (with grinding on the rod bolt heads) 434small block and he turns it 6500.
he also tried some type of additional fuelpump I think.. mechanical on top of the electric.

Are the lines themselves large enough?
I did try the 3,000 chip....the rev limiter works. (even tried with no chip)
I currently have the 8,000 chip in place for headroom (in case it's needed)
They are AFR 190 heads, 2.05/1.60 stainless valves with the correct comp cams 1.560 dia. dual valve springs with 130 lb on the seat and approx 350
lbs open.
A complete MSD ignition, 6al, Pro billet Dist, blaster coil....
RPM air gap intake, electric fan, undrive pulley's
Approx 10:1 compression 4 bolt main, high nickel/high tin block
Holley 110gph mechanical fuel pump
New Moroso 3/8 fuel line from front to rear
Scat 9000 crank (bottom end assembly fully balanced)
GM "Pink rods" (my bad, i thought he said H-eagles)
Custom grind Hydraulic roller Cam 230/235 dur at .050, and 553/564 lift
Full roller Harland sharp rockers with custom length, trick flow pushrods
Rev kit installed
Total timing is 34 to 36 degrees.....
The car pulls like everything up to 5,800 to 6,000 and literally lays down
as if it hit a wall. Then as soon as you shift into the next gear, it's
back to pulling, that's why we don't think it's a fuel delivery problem.

What is he using for a carb? But i would say your at the limits of that mild cam!
he is going to try a 650dp this weekend or so.
