What does this part do?

I just got an open element on my 82 TA, and I noticed this thing. My dad said it might be for the crusie control. If it is, I want to take it out since the cc doesn't work anyway.

That looks like an aftermarket cruise control. If you decide to take it out make sure to plug up any vaccum hoses, so you don't end up with a vaccum leak.

This pic is not my car, but it has the same thing. So I assume it is not aftermarket.

Well if it has a black cable going to the throttle shaft.. good clue its a cruise control.

It does look like a old Dana aftermarket cruise control unit, a quick glance at the driveshaft might find a pick up and magnets glued and strapped to the driveshaft. (well at one time). cheers, Bob
