why can't it go below 220

My car runs at 220 degrees with both fans on, I'm running a 180 thermostat, 176 degree fan switch at is still runs 220. I also have a manual fan switch for the second fan. I already took out the a/c condensor, new 15lbs radiator pressure cap, running a 50/50 coolant water mixture, and the air dam is still in good condition. Why can't it go below 220. If I change the coolant to water mixture to 30/70 will it help to cool the temp down. Also I noticed that my top radiator hose is puffed up (expanded from normal position) is this normal? And when racing down the 1/4 the temp seems to rise about 10 degrees. What can I do to drop my temp?

number of things i guess, some people say egr valve could be sticking, other people would say that your timing is off, and others would say its just the climate you live in or even a mixture of all three.

is the sending unit electrical if so have you changed either the sending unit or the temp guage. my dad had that problem when he swapped guages in his blazer, it ran way hot(210-220) then he got a manual guage and it read 180-190

What effect would changing to 30/70, antifreeze/water mixture be on my temp. Will it run hotter or colder?

should just increase the cooling capacity, so it might run a little cooler

I have the setup you have with a single fan and my guage never goes past the 160 mark on the stock POS gauge. That could be off tho. I figure its alittle warmer than that. Actually i have a 195 in there now for winter...and it still stays that cool. I dont know whats up unless your water pump is starting to fail possibly?

Have you considered the possibility of a stuck thermostat? Or a completely crudded out radiator? Or a worn out water pump impeller?

I know from my PROM tuning experiences that what the gauge says and what the CTS sees can be nearly 15°F off.

WinALDL says my temp is 180°F and the autometer says it's 195°F.

Maybe this has something to do with it?
