Mine does it. You can get your fans to turn on earlier and get a lower thermostat.

Your water pump is probably a OEM style replacement pump from a local parts store right? Probably rebuilt, and even if brand new they're lackluster.

If so try running a good name brand hi-flow water pump.

Stewart was one for around $69.99, Stage 1 pump. I'm running that and it made a noticeable difference in how cool mine runs. Will still overheat if I have to sit in traffic where I'm at a complete standstill for long periods of time (my fans are about shot). But if I am moving at all, getting some airflow it never even gets over around 175ish degrees. Prior to the pump I was running at 200-220ish even on the highway and burning up in any kind of traffic...

I ordered mine online here : http://www.stewartcomponents.com

I feel your pain! I too was running pretty hot on both long trips or if I sat in traffic. I even got dual electric fans that are both on and a 160F thermostat... and the Stewert pump! I think my underdrive crank pulley isn't helping matters, but I don't think it is causeing all my overtemp problems either.

There is a post about a guy who changed his plugs and increased the temps quite a bit. This is something I have wondered about too with my car.

Right now, it is so cold out, that I actually am going to swich back in my 190F thermostat and place one of the fans on a switch because I am running too cool... go figure.

BTW- Running too lean will cause hotter temps too. Flushing the radiator may help. There is some additive to the radiator fluid that is said to drop temps a lot... water wetter or something like that. Sometimes adding an oil/tranny cooler will help a lot too... those can't hurt either on a normal engine.

My car used to run at 190 or so and then it started getting a little hot all of the sudden, even on the highway. It would get up to 220 very often. It progressivly got worse over the next two weeks untiil sunday.... it got to the point where I'd drive the car for 3-4 min and the water would be boiling. So i changed my thermostat.... i had a 180* and I wanted to go to a new 170*, but I couldn't find one. So I got a new 180* stat and it runs around 190 again.
