When I start my car, there is a loud tap that seems to be coming from a valve on the drivers side, close to the passenger compartment. As the car warms up, the tap gets quieter and quieter until it eventually goes away. What is the deal with this? What could it be? How should I go about taking care of this?

Im taking an autoclass at the Community College here. From a video we saw, it said to locate the noisy rocker that's making the noise and see if it needs adjusting. If that doesnt help then the lifter may be dirty and you need to remove it, clean it up and reinstall it (if it's good). Hope this helps.
