Why is there a vent hole in the cap of the clutch master cylinder?

Why is there a vent hole in the cap of the clutch master cylinder?
On the plastic container where the fluid is kept there is a little vent hole why? can mostiure canin there and ruin the brake fluid which is what is in the clutch master cylinder?

That's not the master cyl, it's the reservoir.
Notice that there's a rubber boot down in there, that actually does the sealing... fluid can't get to that vent because of it. That's why GM sells them pre-filled and pre-bled; where the fluid is, is completely sealed from the atmosphere.
