What degree thermo should I get??

I got a stock 350 TPI. I thought I remember reading about 160 or 180 being better for a stock car. I can't remember which one.

This will make my car running cooler right? I hope it does b/c when I just start it up it runs soo much better. I get a 2nd gear chirp at 1/2 throttle and when it's warm i can't get it at full throttle.

160* is what is used for best performance, but I would be careful using such a cool thermostat during cold weather(the o2 sensor needs to get to 650* to allow the ECM to go into closed loop). Also, the emissions equipment is designed to work best when the engine temp is 220* or so.

For your climate, use the 170 or 180. Just changing the thermostat alone probably won't make it run cooler. Get an adjustable fan switch, and that combined with the thermostat should do the trick.

I've seen an adjustable fan switch at Pep Boys before. It is not the switch that screws into the cylinder head, but the kind of switch that you stick the probe into the radiator fins. Get an adjustable one. Should be around $30-40 bucks.

Thermostats all work the same, but don't know if any flow more than others. I've used the auto store thermostats with no problems, but the speed shops always sell 'high flow' thermostats for twice the price.

This is the best info that I've seen on keeping your f-bod cool. https://www.thirdgen.org/tech/cool.
