Check Engine light
Check Engine light
I was driving down the shore on Friday and I was between 65 and 70 and everything was fine. Then after a little while the check engine light came on nothing happened the car ran fine sounded fine. After I was done at the beach when I turned on the car it wasn't on untill I got back ont he highway and hit 65 after a little while the light came on again. Now when I got off the highway so we could stop at a one of the strip malls and to take the back roads home and I was only going about 50 to 55 the light never came on. This was really the first time I had the car above 60 for a long period of time. What could the problem be? Has this happened to anyone else before?

You really need to pull the codes before anything else, just jump the A&B terminals (the top right two) with a paper clip on the ALDL, turn the key to ON, (do NOT start it!) and after the SES light flashes one, pause, one one (three times) count the number of times it flashes, for instance, one one one, pause, one one one, is a code 33. That will give you and everyone here an idea of what is happening.
Just from personal experience, that same thing happened to me about a year ago, going down the highway at about 65 and all the sudden the SES light comes on but there is no drop in performance. Got to where I was going, did my business, came back out, started the car, no SES light and haven't seen it since. When I got home I pulled the codes and it was for the EGR valve.

Yeah, that happened to me a few months ago cruising down the freeway @ about 65. The light came on, and I thought it might be overheating so I just pulled the hood release for a little more airflow and the light went off after about a half mile. I just went on a 350+ mile road trip this past weekend, (to see KISS and Terrible Ted!!!), over mountain passes and it was totally fine, never even got above 240*, so I don't know what the deal is either.

pulling the hood release on the highway isnt a really smart thing to do man... granted there is a safety catch, I would put all my trust in that... could be a very costly mistake...
Yes, there is a safety catch, but I know what your sayin'. I was in an area where I would've been able to stop if necessary, however my excuse is that I was late to work and had to choose which mistake would ultimately be more costly. Fixin' my vixen, or loosing my job for being late again!
