Removing the Speedometer

Hey I'd like to remove my mechanical speedo in my 82 TA. It has an auto tranny if that matters. I was wondering where to disconnect the speedo cable, so I can remove the speedometer. Will disconnecting it alter the speedometers accuracy?

Wouldn't disconnecting the speedometer cable prevent the speedometer from working?

well, disconnecting it will stop the speedo from working, but a thought I have is that it may be like a shifter cable, where a steep angle will not work as well.
