New clutch engagement questions

I just had a RAM OE clutch installed in my 89 RS. The clutch grips great compared to the old one, and the car doesn't vibrate anymore due to clutch chatter. It's holding under full thorttle acceloration, but it is not even engaging a little until the pedal is half way out. I checked this by pulling up the emergency brake, putting it in 5th, and slowly letting the clutch out until I see the tach move just a little. It doesn't move until the clutch is about halfway out.

Is this normal? THe way it's supposed to be?

Any help is appreciated,

Jason

Sounds reasonable...

If you look at the way a disc is built, you will see that it has thin wavy plates in between the layers of friction material. They determine the overall "travel" between the start of engagement, and full engagement. Alot of the clutch mfrs. use ones with relatively little wave, to avoid problems with their product failing to release due to problems elsewhere in the system but which nevertheless turn into clurch warranties.

As long as it fully releases and fully engages, and is smooth in between, it's OK.
