Any help will do. Thanks.

pretty sure that is the air pump switching valve. not sure what a heater control valve looks like, are these two parts similare or is one of us just wrong?

That is most definitely the heater control valve in the picture. The diverter valve connected to the smog pump may look vaguely similar, except that it's a box and not a little valve with a vacuum fitting on top. It does, however, have a similar looking circular side that the case goes over, I guess.

If you broke a nipple off of the diverter valve.. just glue it back on. I'm pretty sure you did since you didn't say that coolant spilled out, which would have been the case if you broke what you circled in the picture.

no clue there tekviper. Any info at all will help though. anyone else help out at all...i really got to find out what this is so i can get a new one.

I cant remember is coolant spilled out or not. But i definetly need to get a new one or used one. The nipple that proke off one of the lines the other part of it is still pretty well inside the hose so im going to hald to get another hose as well. Its the nipple on the bottom part of the valve with the short hose 5/8 diameter going to the throttle body.

This black box in the center is the diverter valve.

edit: Actually, I'm wondering if you broke the nipple off of the top of the heater control valve? If so, just try to glue it back on. You can buy a new one at any auto parts store, it's probably not worth replacing if you could just fix it, though.

ok that helps out. Yeah the box....nothing broke on that part...just the valve. Looks like a T with 3 nipples coming out for hoses to attach to. One of them broke off. Any idea where i can get a new one? Auto parts store?......or do i have to go to GM?

Auto parts store, ask for a heater control valve. GM may have it as well.

Go to any auto parts store. I think that EVERYONE should replace it whether it needs it or not because these parts can surely leave you stranded if they fall apart, which I have heard that they do around 100K. It's a no brainer replacement for $15 and significantly reduce the risk of a problem in the future.

speaking of the heater control valve... I'm trying to clean up my engine compartment a little (so you can see all my chrome *bling bling*)... and plus, it annoys me...
what is the best way to re-route the heater hoses that go to the control valve... If I remove the valve and just go with the hoses off to the side, what will happen, will something not work ??
thanks

YES THE LITTLE PLASTIC SONOFA****** WILL FALL APART AT ALMOST PRECISELY 100K miles.. i was removing my TB to clean all the gunk out when i first bought the car(96,800miles)-- well when removing it, i guess i BARELY touched the heater control valve and it basically crumbled in my hand-- well i thought, its just a plastic piece, it doesnt look that important- so i put everything back together and JUST FOR KICKS, cranked the car to see what the black POS was for- well the most amazing GREEN RAINBOW shot about 6 ft across the engine and into the yard- pretty funny sight as i'm sure you all can imagine. it was only like 15 bucks at Autozone and well worth replacing it. Theres a free mod in the tech articles section about bypassing the TB coolant line- thats where it runs from- pretty useful mod too. Your hands wont get burned as much off the TB with it. anyway, hopefully my little anecdote helped lighten ya'lls days.
