Building my new 350 how about some help
Looking to build my 350 but not sure with what. trying to decide whether to bore it out to 355 or take my friends 383 crank kit. I want it to run in the low 12s without nitrous and maybe high 11s with n2o. So i definatly want it to be set up to run n2o. I will also be running it off of 373s and a t-5. i dont want a power adder so higher compression will prolly be the thing. i do want a huge cam. like one thats on the verge of not being streetable but also good with nitrous. maybe you guys have some opinions on this.
If you wanna run low 12's all motor you will have to run ALMOST 450 HP at the flywheel, which means that you WILL need forged crank/pistons/rods to handle that power (anything over 400 ,you need forged), plus, if you think that you will do that with a STOCK T-5... think again... it will rip apart (stock T-5 is rated at a max of 360 HP)...
the only way to reach that sort of power with a stock stroke and a streetable cam (even if it's HUGE) will cost SO MUCH $$$ .... It's definitely possible if you stroke it, and get MAJOR HEADS though, SO I'd suggest that you go with the stroker kit, and start saving up money for all the other stuff that you are gonna need...
good luck...
by the way... once you get past 10.5 or so for compression.. YOU WILL NEED RACE GAS.. pump gas will no longer stop detination once you pass 10.5-ish

To make a 383, you have to bore the block .030", which is the same routine maintenance that you would perform on a 350 that makes it a "355".
What heads? induction system? exhaust?
Sounds to me like you need to do a little more research and narrow things down a bit... "I want to run some nitrous" and "I want a huge cam" isn't enough information to build a motor around.
Nobody who knows what they're doing cares what a T-5 is "rated" at. You can shred one (at least, I sure can) with a 200 HP 305, or you can make one live (again, at least I can) behind a 400 HP 400. It's all in how you operate it. The "rating" has more to do with warranty risk in a street car than it does with how long it will survive if you race it.

i understand i will need all forged internals specially for the nitrous and i want to save for some giant heads i just want specs for them and ideas of what to get. i was looking at like 10:1 compression. I thought about just getting a blower and run low compression but i want something that i can hide. i wanted a 671 but it wouldnt fit under my SS hood. I understand i need i stronger T-5 i might even go to a T-56. And i know i need to do more research but thats why i am posting this so i can hear some options that i have. Or maybe how i can get there.
comp cams has some Xtreme energy cams for small-block chevy that will open up a 383... that and maybe some AFR 200 heads or even better ... the WORLD PRODUCT sportsman II heads (they are wicked heads, for around $900 a pair) UNLESS, of course that is, you would wanna fork out the cash for a pair of BRODIX street/strip heads.. once you have the 383 forged stroker kit inplace in the engine with good head/cam selection you should be GOLDEN for low 12's (450 HP)
good luck... OH, what sort of induction are you gonna use??... it makes a HUGE difference on the rest of the stuff.... are you even GONNA TRY to make this thing streetable ??

that engine doesnt; even have forged pistons, if u are gonna be using nitrous forged pistons are a must unless u don;t mind wastein money lol

383 would be my choice.
It will make tons of torque.
What are your plans for hooking all that power up to the pavement? Posi? TA bushings? Tires?

A 355 with Vortec heads, XE274 cam, 10:1 compression, and Performer RPM intake will hit mid to low 12's with good traction and suspension. You can spray it into the 11's fine, but you might want to lower the CR to about 9.5:1, and of course get a forged bottom end.
