Gear Drives
They help keep your engine in time better than a stock chain setup. They also add a sound similar to a blower. If you like the sound go with the Pete Jackson. It comes in quiet or loud (which is real loud). My friend had a quiet one in his '86 IROC and it worked great.
If you don't like the sound, go with an aftermarket double roller chain.
The only drawbacks (other than the sound issue) that I've heard of are that if you have a knock sensor you may have a problem (questionable, but possible), and secondly, gear drives don't have any slack like a chain, so you could possibly experience valve train lashback.
I'm not real familiar with this issue, and if I'm incorrect, someone please correct me.

I don't really like those things. They sound kinda funny. Also people might think you have a super. So if you lose then they'll think they smoked a Camaro/Firebird with a supercharger. And they'll talk ****. Also Gear drives draw hp away from your motor. ALthough every little is taken. It still takes some.

I'm not real fond of them (gear drives) either. Because they are a DIRECT link to the valvetrain from the crank, Yes, they are more acurate. But, they also transmit all of the engines harmonics into the valvetrain. Which will lead to pre-mature failure of the valve springs. ESPECIALLY if you are running a solid or solid roller camshaft with more aggresive opening ramps and higher lift numbers.. Believe me... I learned it the hard way. After several broken springs and constantly having to reset my valve lash, I finally replaced ONLY the gear drive (which was the Quiet one) with a high quality double roller chain set and my problem disapeared...
What?! What did you say? WHAT?!! I can't hear you over all that forking NOISE, dude!
(Besides, the newer design Link-Belt chains are more forgiving and just as accurate. Powdered metal gears are the cat's *** .)
