New Project looking for any comments, 4th gen axle to 3rd gen with 4th gen wheels.
Ok I have weighed my options and figure that replacing my 9 bolt 2.77's is the best way to get better prformance. I am going to get a 4th Gen axle w/ rear disc. That way I wont have to change anything except maybe the brake hoses. Then to fix the problem of the wheels sticking out on the rear I am just putting 4th gen wheel on the back. For the front I am going to get spacers and put 4th gens on the front. I just bought a set of 93-94 Trans Am Wheels on Ebay for $200. They are the 16X8 with oput tires. I figure they were worth $350 to me so I think I got a good deal. Now all I have to do is get the axel and spacers and I can get this thing underway. Any tips on where I can get the spacer and axel would be appreciated.

Well in my opinion you would be better off sticking with your 9 bolt ,changing the gears and just buying four spacers instead of two.The nine bolt is alot stronger than the ten bolt.As for the spacers www.vettebrakes.com
but look on ebay first.

Can't buy gears for a 9-bolt with my carrier. If I were to keep the 9-bolt I would invest about $800 into changing the gears and besides I am tring to just get about a 13.8 1/4 time

The combo of the 4th gen rear and wheels should stuff right in.
Get a 4th gen rear with disc brakes. Unlike the stupidity that comes on the 9-bolt, they actually work! I will never put a 9-bolt in my car for that reason: regardless of whether the 9-bolt is marginally stronger than a 10-bolt in unmodified form, I like to stop sometimes too.

I replaced my 9 bolt with a 4th gen disc rear and it bolts right in with no problem. It does stick out but i think it looks cool and know i can put a 17x11 rim on the back with no spacers.
