91 Rs 305
91 Rs 305
Hi I'm about to buy a 91 RS. I drove her for about 150 miles all together with no probs. Today for the first time I took it to town and when ideling for over 4-5 minutes it started to smoke some white-blue smoke and the temp got up to 220. It clears up fine after going 55-60 for a couple of miles. She never smokes when running through the gears, only after ideling for a bit and the temp gets up. the temp outside is about 90. The engine has no ticks or rattles and runs strong. The only thing is all that smoke after idels for a long period. Please give me any advise as to what this might be and if i should stay away from it. Thanks
Dvondman,
Welcome Aboard!
The temperature rising to 220°F at idle is not uncommon. The electric fans are not programmed to turn on until 223°F.
If the bluish-white smoke is from the exhaust, it could be valve stem seals, which can be cured fairly easily. It may also be from other causes, so try to determine what the potential problems might be before placing an offer. If the price is right, you'll know it.

Thanks Vader for your reply, However I've decided to stay away from that car. My uncle has sold me his 92 Firebird for 1400 cheaper and it is way nicer and NO SMOKE so thanks . I'm sure I'll be back in the short future.
