Need quick help...car wont turn over!!

I installed the mufflex 4" exhaust 2 days ago and had the rear of the car high in the air. When I took the car down the car will not turn over. I have no clue why. I got a backfire out of the carb (small fire) and also a backfire out of the exhaust. I have fuel, fuel pressure, spark and the distributor is properly aligned (I took it off cleaned it and have the mark on the number 1 plug, the motor was turned until top dead center). Sometimes it feels like it will turn an makes the noise but nothing. Sounds like its grounding out or something. Im only home for today then back to school. Thanks guys

how'd you get a back fire out of the carb and exhaust if it won't turn over?

Turning over doesn't mean starting...it mean's cranking, or that the engine is rotating. If it backfired, it had to turn over. The problem is that it won't start.

Since you took out the distributor, I'm guessing that you put it in wrong or have the firing order wrong. Redo it! It has to be something you touched, unless it's gremlins. So check over everything you touched.

Woops I was in a rage.. turn over is engine turning absolutely right. It wouldnt start BUT... I checked all my plugs and saw that they were drenched with gas. Cleaned them all up and boom fired right up the first try. Car runs so unbelievable..I must have gained at least 70+ HP from the new exhaust. My old one had pipes in it that were under 2". Thanks guys for the replies.

keep in mind that the crank timing mark lines up with the rotor on 1 and 6, make sure you're on compression stroke and the mark and rotor line up. why did you even have distributor out to do exhaust work?

Yes I adjusted the timing properly except for the dieseling Im getting. Removed the number 1 plug for the compression part and lined up the distributor. Why I messed with my distributor is because I was desperate. I did not take the whole thing out but a week ago I had a huge antifreeze spill in my engine and I was thinking that some may have gotten in the distributor. Any suggestions on initial timing. It's at 15deg advanced. My pickup is great though, just the dieseling. Mods in Sig
