Can anyone explain a code 44, lean o2 sensor????

Installed my headers and now the car runs like crap, threw a 44 the other day. Revs a lot but no acceleration, idles fine in park but when in gear, the rpms drop off and the engine knocks and then dies, unless you give it gas. The fuel is at 42psi. I did just turn it up a couple of pounds and it seemed to get better, could I need more presure?

You may need to replace your O2 sensor with a heated one. Apparently the way some headers are designed they don't provide enough heat for the O2 sensor to read correctly.

Would jet-hot coating affect the O2 sensor?

Well going along with Vaders response in my other post, its probably not grounded at all because of the jet hot coating.

Can i just fashion a ground-strap out of a piece of wire?

Where do i get a "heated" o2 sensor, everyone at my local autozone has never heard of them?

thanks

Oh yea, the position of the o2 sensor is significantly further from the block than the original, reinforcing the idea of needing a heated o2 sensor.

Last night, rechecked the wires and tightness of the plugs, and bumped the fuel up a little more. This seemed to help something. It will hold idle in park, but in gear it will fall off and eventually die, a rough death, meaning it will really knock and cough before it dies.

thanks, i'm getting closer.....

That is not right. Jet hot coating IS conductive, and does not affect your O2 sensor. Did you use a conductive anti-seize compound when installing the sensor? What does affect it is how far away the sensor is from an exhaust port. On TES headers, the sensor is right at the end of the primaries...so it seems to work alright.

The sensor on the slp is right after the primaries also, but still much further than the stock set-up.

I guess its not a grounding problem if the jet hot is conductive.

getting closer.....

Somebody on here knows what o2 sensor you need to get and how to install it. Sure wish they would see this so they could help you out. All I know is that some new cars use a heated sensor, I think the one they say to get is for a VETTE. Not sure which year though. Sorry this the only help I can offer on this.
