I have a 90 Firebird, auto. I doubt this has anything to do with it but just incase I did just have the tranmission rebuilt, and this all happened afterwards. For a while my car would havve the Check Engine Light come on and die on me unless I started to give it gas. I did cut off the breather on my Air Intake box and put a 2 in hose on it and ran it under the car. I thought that was it so I took off the hose and put a 1.5 in opening on it and didnt run it under the car to get less air to it. Which was about the size of the old opening.

One day i was putting more freone in it so I ahd the car running, i started to notice the exhaust was kinda black so the fuel seems like it is too rich, then the Check Engine Light came on again and shortly the car died. So the car flooded out for some reason.

I decided to change the O2 sensor. This seemed to help also some. Now the car will die after I drive it for a while and it heats up with no engne light coming on. But only when I am giving it no gas. Any help would be grateful, thanks.

 

Although the CE light is not coming on I would still check for codes since the CE light was coming on at some point. My car was doing the same thing once and it turned out to be the MAF sensor. Again, check the codes just in case.
