I recently purchased a 92 Firebird over the internet, and it didn't come with Cruise Control. I posted this on cz28, but no responses. the owner said it was not an option with the 305/5 spd combo. Have you guys heard of this? I do alot of highway driving and would like to add this feature. I know Pep boys sells a kit, but it mounts to the dash. I would like to use the factory switch and what not. I was thinking it wasn't available because of the WS6 package, but it has power everything and leather... Anyone out there have any clues as to why it was excluded? Any other sites I can research? Here is the list of options... thanxs -jay

As far as your question, a WS6 can have a cruise control as an option. A 305/5 speed may or may not make a difference. The RPO number for cruise control was 'K34'. I'm not sure why this wouldn't be available on a 5-speed, since there is probably already a mounting provision for the clutch cruise release switch on the pedal rack, right above the clutch starter interlock switch. I would think that installing an aftermarket unit with the factory-type control lever shouldn't be too difficult. The steering column is already designed for a cruise control wiring harness.

My 89z 305tpi 5 speed has cruise control.

If you want more of a factory look, you could look at getting an aftermarket indicator/wipers/cruise stalk, from say jcwhitney for about $60?? and hook up an aftermarket cruise kit to it. From the catalog it looks the same as the factory unit.

Alternatively, you could get the hardware from a wrecking yard and just buy a new stalk to improve the appearance. (the writing on mine is starting to come off)

 

Thanxs gentlemen. I have been lurking on this board for sometime. Never bothered to register because everyone else posted the right answer and I don't like beating a dead horse. I was thinking the same, just adding it, but as I looked at my list of options, it doesn't have intermittent wipers either! Please realize I haven't even sat in this car yet. It is stil in Chicago with the owner! I won't be able to get it until Sep 9th or 10th! Aren't both those switch's on the same "stalk"? I think so. I have been in Korea for almost a year now, and away from any type of normal cars. Thanxs again for the quick, and educated replys... -jay

 

You haven't been in it yet? Mabey it does have cruise. Anyway my friends old iroc w/5 speed had cruise and it sucked it was terrible. It wasn't smooth at all he just used the pedal most of the time because it got annoying FAST! So don't worry about the cruise control but as for the wipers that sucks man.
