You'll be surprised where technology is at. Just to see what the "On Star" system could do, we called them from a customers GMC Yukon Denali. We had them read Diagnostic Trouble Codes from the PCM, tell us it was OK to drive because it was only an EVAP code stored, cleared it for us, and then asked why we were calling from a dealership. They were able to pull DTC's out of the computer over the satallite, clear them, and also pinpoint our exact location. I'm impressed.

What amazes me is that the big industrial polluters need this more than cars do.

Hmmn...can't you just imagine the possibilities of OBD3? Buy a car through GMAC, payment gets lost in the mail, you go on a one month vacation, and don't see the nasty notice.... they send a signal to disable the PCM....

Hehe, that's why you finance through a different bank.

Sounds great to me... Get those idiots (like a guy I work with) whose cars burn a quart of oil a WEEK (1-liter engine even) to fix their smelly cars. Or people who drive around forever with the check engine light on (my parents). I'd say less than 30% of the people I know take good care of their cars.
