MSD6AL..what are your guys' experiences?

If not MSD which would you suggest? I will be running a 412sb with carb and stock HEI distributor. I want a better ignition than stock, and a rev limiter would be a nice safety feature. I have done a little research on these little boxes but I would like to know some "real-world" experiences.

Bird,
I noticed a smoother idle, slightly better throttle response, and much improved cold start characteristics. I think they are a great upgrade from a points style ignition. I converted my points to magnetic (Pertronix), then added the spark box.

I'm very happy, but some guys have had problems with spark boxes on this site - and it has never really been determined why. I'd say that a good aftermarket or improved GM HEI would do the trick - as in a spark box is not needed, but there are many who say the $150 is a good investment no matter how good your current ignition is.

Gee, I'll bet this reply really helped clear things up for you - oh well.......

Good luck, whatever way you go.

Yea, I heard the stories of bad boxes too, I wonder whats up with that?

I have a 6A that I was using on my TA for a while, its fine no problems with it.

I have a 6AL on my super-vibrating mustang, no problems with it either.

I didnt use the rubber mounting feet on either car. Maybe thats the trick?

I was originally going to get a 6AL but wanted to get away from the old analog stuff and get a MSD Digital 6. After looking at the features I decided on a Holley's digital Strip Annihilator. A street car could just use the HP Annihilator. The nicest thing about the digital boxes are that they're smaller and have more features built into them.

I have had my 6AL on my ZZ4TPI for about two years with no problems. Not saying street cars really need the aftermarket ignition but ever look under the hood of just about every pro race car? You usually find some sort of MSD ignition box. I feel they are a quality piece.
