URGENT JUST FAILED E-CHECK

just got back from e-check and it wasnt even close to passing. HC loaded was 772 ppm with a limit of 220 and co loaded was 3.78 with a limit of 1.2.

i need to get tags in a hurry because they expired yesterday. when i left e-check a check engine light came on and it and my auto x ray said that code 36 map burn-off relay was set. how do you check and fix it? would this cause this kind of failer? i replaced the map sensor and burn-off relay about a year ago. i have many performance upgrades.

make sure your car is running good,,get new plugs, wires, buy some injector cleaner, put some 93 octane in there too. as for the code 36, just change the relay on the firewall. its a 15$ part ,or make sure the connection is tight and clean. dont know if this would of caused you to fail though.

You say you have "many performance upgrades"

What are they?? Alot of perf. stuff that they say is "smog legal" isn't really tailpipe friendly. (I don't want to get into that one)

Did it pass before with these mods??

Is it still running good??

More details please

your code 36 could definatly cause a failure.. ive noticed with most MAF/MAP problems, usually causes the car to run extremely rich, and seem to stumble when idling.. i had the same thing happen to me this year during emissions.. connector for my MAF is kinda loose, the way it was idling, the guy said he wouldnt even test it, cos he knew itd fail..

A burnoff relay problem would not cause you to fail the test. The relay heats the MAF wires to red hot at engine shutoff to burn off contaminants. It is not active during normal running. A malfunction will cause your MAF to die early however.

i have slp cam, slp 1 3/4 headers, tpis intake and runners, 160 thermo with thermomaster chip, msd wires and ignition box, walker catback exhaust and a few other little things i let my car warm up to about 200 degrees with the ac on. in ohio they take your car upto 30mph on a dyno. i knew something was upbecause in the middle of the test he reved it up a few times. i do have a maf sensor it was a typo error. my car is an 88 iroc 350.

CF,

If you have an AFPR, you might want to back the pressure down to 37PSIG +/- 3PSIG with the vacuum hose disconnected at hot idle. You might also want to verify the oxygen sensor is functioning correctly and the A.I.R. system is pumping air to the cat converter. It sounds like you're WAY rich and those items should help.

Later,
Vader

I have had good luck putting about 2 cans of dry gas into a 1/8th tank of premium. The alcohol burns really clean. "Wynns" makes a product called "smog check" (i think) which is supposed to be good. I think in Ohio you can just slip the guy $50 and he will let you through...that was the deal when i was in Cleveland a few years ago (really!)

If you rev the motor while testing the readings will go off the board.

If you vary the throttle even a little it affects the overall reading.

As for your chip, most of my customers with chips don't pass. They have to put the original back in. (but we have lower specs for the test here.)

I know alot of people probably have chips and pass, so please don't say "mine does!!" , I'm just saying the ones I see don't.

I think if he reved it during a "test" phase of the exam then he gave you "the juice"
