What could cause my fan not to kick on?

I have a thermomaster chip and a 160 thermostat, that keeps the car running pretty cool. But here lately the fan doesnt kick on at all, untill it almost gets to 260 then turns on. Could it be a relay? How can i rig up a switch to turn the fan on but still let the computer turn it on when it needs to? Thanks

for gods sake please never let your car get that hot. if your a/c works, turn it on when you get about 210* or so. the fan kicks on when the air is running. try that till you get a new fan switch.go to jegs.com and get one from there.email me back and let me know if you get cool.

since it does come on you may have a bad sender or the in daash gage could be wrong and it comes on at the correct engine temp, but the gage reads higher.

If the Coolant temp sensor wasn't working right - the fan would not kick on.

And that is a SHOT IN THE DARK

but worth checking . . .

Peace y'all -
