That is just evil t/a's openion. Personally, I like glasspacks. And can they add HP? Sure! They can also decrease HP. It all depends on the size of the exhaust tubing. Some glasspacks can be some of the most free flowing mufflers out there. If you like how it sounds, then I'd leave it on there.

Ha!15 dollar cherry bombs are nowhwere near free flowing ,a chambered muffler will make more power. Those perforations are more of a restriction than you would think.Cherry bombs are cheap ,restrictive crap.simple as that.Maybe a better designed glasspack type xr1's by borla may be ok but cherry bombs are crap.

I agree with evil, Cherry bombs are cheap. I suggest flowmaster 2 chamber. Thats what I have. Sounds great and didnt cost to much. (Like $75 er something.) Cherry bombs are for cooters. Or old school hot rods.

Thats my opinion anyway.

I think glasspacks are great on my '70 Impala, but I would not even think of putting them on my camaro. I would suggest the flowmasters as well.

Cherry Bombs are the performance muffler of the 60's. As such, they are old technology. Today's mufflers are quieter and a whole lot better at passing exhaust gases through with little backpressure.

Personally, I'm using the Hooker Aerochamber.

I have to agree, I have heard both and nothing sounds as good as a flowmaster. I don't think I would every buy another kind of performance muffler

86,
Old guys learn just like young ones do - and in this case you'd be half right. Yup, when I was 16 years old (about a century ago), I had Cherry bombs. But, I was one of the first guys at my high school to discover and convert to "Turbo" mufflers. They were the best at making HP back then.

In 1970, most good-quality glasspacks DID add some HP, but only because the factory mufflers were ungodly restrictive. And truthfully, most guys ran glasspacks for the loudness factor. I became one of the guys from the "fastest is bestest" school of thought, running the quieter, faster turbo units. The glasspacked, chrome-wheeled, airshocked gofaster crowd was a joke from about 1972 onward.

I've run Flowmasters for years - cannot beat them for $$ per HP returned.

Guy at track was running Cherry Bomb header glass packs put on his '68 Camaro 21 years ago. I gave him a pair of JC Whitney turbo mufflers I took off my '57. His first comment after his 1st run was, they sure are quiet! The second comment when he saw the .5 sec drop in his ET was ... disbelief.

I never had it to the track like this, but the 1st set of headers I had on the '57 also had glass pack header mufflers (this back in '74). Very loud. Replaced with turbo mufflers in '77, much better sound and the SOTPs HP increase very definite.

Dump the Cherry Bomb.

Tell ya what. You can get basic replacement parts at Schuck's or Kragen or NAPA or whatever corner auto store you have near you. But, if you want to install a REAL performance part for actual PERFORMANCE. Go to a pro. Meaning order from one of the specialty mags or a Hi-Po shop. Glasspacks and Cherry Bombs are perfect examples of cheap "upgrades" if you will, that really have no business being on a newer (sort of) "hot rod." Power is barely upped, if at all. And as for sound, that's up to you. Personally, and its just MHO, I like the deep, rounded rumble of Flowmasters and the like. But those Cherry Bombs and whatnot just give me a headache, like listening to a little kid beating on a Radio Flyer full of rocks with a stick. As with anything, "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR." Later.

Flowmaster 2-chambers were pretty loud for me. Lot's of interior resonance. I just put the 3-chambers on and much better... Still a litle resonance, though, but nice...
Those two-chambers, though, were pretty cool when you just punch it at a light and rev-up to 6-grand, bark second gear and keep going! Biggest smiles I've ever had on my face. Sound like Nascar, baby!!! DOUGH!

i put a glasspack (not sure what brand) on mine. fit perfectly in place of the origianl. only thing is it only has 1 outlet. i burned it out before i even put it on. sounds pretty sweet to the people behind me. as for the performance part i have no idea. i dont think i have ever had everything running right since i had it. still need a maf and a fuel injector.

Cherry Bombs! Yeeeehaaaw!!! After you get that der ting clamped up, we'll run down the the trash heap and shoot rats! Man, whatever you do, rip that awful piece of ******* trash off there and put a flowmaster on it. I have one and It is one of the best sounding mufflers I have ever heard on a camaro.

Go with a real muffler, cherry bombs are for people that are stuck in a time frame, broke,or the very few that really like the sound. Go with a flowmaster, edelbrock or even a hooker exaust( I don't care for the sound of the hooker) There are plenty more out there that are alot better than the bomb.
