cam problem
i have an 86 iroc 305tpi.my friend has an 89 formula 305 tpi we just put a 95 lt1 cam in his car (or so the guy says) and got nothing. i have hooker headers, dual flows, .420 .442 cam and ads superchip and big mouth intake self ported runners and plennum. he has edelbrock headers dual flows, underdrive pulleys, hypertech chip and 95 lt1 cam, should be .447, .459 something like that. both have 2.73 gears. i walk away from him like nothing the same as before the cam, should he not be faster? are we doing something wrong with his car his timing is at 10 degrees as is mine fuel press 40. any suggestions will be aprreciated.
TeePee Eye,
You have a ported plenum and runners, while the '89 apparently doesn't. Advantage - '86.
You don't really know the lift and duration of the cam in the '89 unless you measured it. Yours might be better. Advantage - possibly '86.
You have the ADS PROM, the '89 has a HyperScrap PROM, which probably does nothing significant on a MAF car. Advantage - '86.
Your car most likely has a 2.77 Borg Warner axle, while the '89 probably has a 2.73 Saginaw axle. Advantage - '86.
The underdrive sheave on the '89 is really doing nothing except making the alternator work harder and possibly limiting coolant flow at lower engine RPM. There's little or no power advantage on a street application, so that one is a wash.
