Race gas or not?

I may be going to the track sometime this week. My question is should I run race gas or not. I've got a 91 1LE that is basicly stock but I may run NOS. Should I run some race gas or maybe a 50/50 mixture. Or is it not worth it and just throw in a bottle of octane booster?

From what I've learned racing at Moroso, don't bother with the high octane stuff. Everyone I know runs on premium (or less) I ran my '98 V-6 on plain old 87 octane.

If you feel the need, add some 100 octane UNLEADED race gas. The extra octane shouldn't hurt the performance, but don't use leaded gas with an O2 sensor or a catalytic converter.

i think i'd stick with pump gas. if you can use a scanner to look at your knock senser it will tell you if you need the race gas or not.

With a small shot of NOS (150 or less), it is not neccessary. The burn rate of a higher octane fuel is actually slower than that of pump gas, and can actually slow your E.T. down. The purpose of race gas is to resist detonation, not make more power (although it allows you to).

If you want to be on the safe side, pick up a gallon of Toulene at your local hardware store and put it in with a tank of gas, or a 50/50 of 100 and 93. That will not make much of a difference. Stay away from octane boosters, they are just snake oils.
