need help diagnosing my starting problem
allright.. i have an '89 IROC that i autocross...
sometimes after a run.. the car won't start... it doesn't seem to be the VATS because the car can be push started(is that logical thinking?)...
anyway.. the only fix for the no-start problem seems to be time.. so i guess it's a heat related issue...
so you would guess the starter right? well, the starter doesn't make any effort at all to start the car whenever this problem occurs... Is that what it's like when a starter is going out?
thx for any input you can give

starters can be funny things when they go bad. I would pull it off and get it tested. You can check the starter relay as well. As for the VATS, if the security light stays on in your car when it's doing this, then you have a VATS problem.

It might just be getting too hot... When I first put my motor together, it did the same thing... Then I installed a heat shield for the starter (one of the dual layer aluminum starter/solenoid sheilds). Didn't have any heat related problems after that... Could also be the starter shooting craps though...

the security light turns off every time after a couple seconds.. so i guess the vats is ok
i guess i'll just buy a new starter and see what happens....
does anybody have a suggestion for what starter to buy? i'm putting hooker long tubes on the car, so small would be good...
