To z28wiz:
How can you fit a 4" open air element under your stock hood? and with a tbi spacer???
------------------
Mods:Hooker Aerochamber 3" exhaust, gutted kitty,
March 2 piece underdrive pullies, smog pump gone,;these two made a very noticable difference.
14x4 K&N open air element filter-the best mod so far
Eibach springs with KYB's all around.
Appearance: Harwood cowl hood, Z-28 wing, painted black(7/20/00)-original color was light blue
*All these mods were made this year
Stock Options:117,000 miles on motor, 5spd, TBI, 305, T-tops
Going to the track this summer, but i'm pretty sure i'm in the 15's now.

Some other easy stuff:
If the motor is in good condition, try Mobile 1 synthetic either 5w-30 or 10w-30.
Mobile 1 Tranny fluid. If the tranny in good condition.
Low temp thermostat say 160 degree or 180 degree. Get rid of the stock 195 degree one.
Give the car a tune up, if it hasn't had one in a while. The new coil and rotor really helped.
I've done all the above. My car has 203,xxx miles on it. The car has K&N and a dynomax like yours. I'd guessimate it's hp to be in the 180hp-185hp.

All 88-92 TBI engines were rated at 170 HP and 255 TQ.

Well thanks a lot for the info, but now I'm not so sure that's what I have. I bought the car less than a month ago and the person that owned it before me changed some stuff under the hood. Now I don't know what I have. It could be TBI or TPI. I just need to find out now.
TBI HP 2 LOW... i have many stories to prove this, but i wont ruin my evening talking about them, everyone here has heard me bit(h about that engine

If you've got a big round black thing under your hood, thats TBI. If you have an aluminum intake with 8 legs on it, thats TPI.
I dynoed my 92 RS with 195k on it, stock with a K&N filter, and got 150 HP and 200 TQ. Calculating 15% loss thru the T5, thats 175 HP and 235 TQ, so the torque was a little down, probably from high mileage.
Then I added a stock IROC cat-back, and got 158 HP and 220 TQ.
