Need prompt help with cooling fan setup
Need prompt help with cooling fan setup
Okay, I'm devising a modified fan turn setup by using a thermal sensor relay. I want to wire it in parallel with the stock system, so I can switch from stock to aftermarket fan programs on-the-fly. First, where is the the thermal sensor for the existing system. I did not see any wiring coming from anywhere on the radiator where I figured it would be. Also, does anyone know the exact control parameters for the secondary fan. I assume the primary is directly controlled by the collent temp sensor and A/C override. I have no idea what the secondary fan parameters are controlled by.
Thanks,
Jeff
(Also, I've already read the tech article)

I only have one electric fan from my old L69, but I should be able to help you. The secondary fan comes on when the a/c is activated only. I have wired a switch directly to my fan via a relay and an inline fuse. I can switch it on and off with the flip of a switch. Make sure to use the correct gauge wire though. Just find the hot wires from your fans, and wire them parallel to an in-line fuse and then into a relay. This allows you to leave your stock turn on for your TCS to pass emissions. It is one of the best, cheap money mods I have done to my cooling system. I do have a thermomaster chip and a 160 stat, but it would still get hot (200) in traffic with the a/c on when it was hot outside. Now with my fan running it never gets above 185 no matter what. You can wire both fans to turn on with the stock TCS at 220 degrees to cool things faster. Also you could get a new fan switch that will turn your fans on sooner, and they are relatively cheap...like $20-30. Derale makes an adjustable one so you can change the fan turn on points depending on the seasonal weather.
