Anyone else's MSD box interfere with their radio???
Anyone else's MSD box interfere with their radio???
I have an MSD 6AL box mounted where the stock computer used to be. When I turn on the radio, I get a buzzing through the speakers, and I'm almost positive it's the box because the buzz sounds exactly like the sound the MSD makes. There is no buzz when I have a cd on. Is there anyway to shield the interference? Thanks.

Hmm thats possable, but odd. I have an MSD 6a box, and have had no problems with my radio. mine is mounded under the hood where all the ac crap use to be, but I do have a wire running from it to my after market tach that is mounted right above the radio and ac controlls.
Honestly I cant say Ive heard my MSD make any sound thoe eather.
I dont know if there is any way to shield the interference or not, maybe some one in/from the car audio section could give ya an idea.

mines does. I get it whenever i listen to the radio. not when i play CDs....
I havnt figured this one out yet. its been doing it for a while, only thing i can think of is try re-grounding the stereo to the chassis and make sure the MSD wires (all of them) are as far as possible from the radio and antenna and all that good stuff.
But that might not fix it either. what kind of plug wires you runnin? It may be radio freq. interference from plug wires... some 11.4 MM taylors may do the trick. thats what im going to try next, but they are so much $$ like $110 for a set.

I never ram an MSD until this winter-no radio problems last year and none this year after the MSD install. Buddy ran MSD last year with no problems and was using MSD plug wires, switched to a Big Block and ran different wires-junk Accel's to get the motor fired up, guess what severe whine/clipping through the radio. Make sure they are spiral core wires for efficency sake and radio noise. I run Taylor 8mm spiro-pro wires and have'nt had any problems, and not that I'm Mr. Sound system, but I got enough power to amplify a nasty sound like that. So I'd still place my money on the wires.
Yeah, like crazy. No need for a tach- I can just listen to it through the radio!
My older 1978 Malibu wiring and radio was never designed to handle heavy E/M interference. Later models had better/filtered power supplies in the radio, but they only go so far.
You can buy a "choke" (big capacitor) from Radio Shack and get rid of the problem once and for all.

I don't have MSD ignition, but my stereo does the same thing when my cell phone gets a signal. I'll be drivin along and my radio will buzz, and I'll tell whoever is with me that I'm about to get a call. They just look at me funny like wha? A few seconds later my cell phone rings :lala:
