questions about 083 L98 heads

I keep seeing that the L98 14101083 heads were used on 285 & 300hp crate engines. Does anyone know what cam these motors used? What power can be had with these heads w/out porting? I am looking at an 87 350 out of a g20 van, adding the 083 heads, summit 1105 cam, headers, no cats, and edelbrock performer intake. Just hoping I can at least reach 300hp.

thanks as always:lala:

Bilb,

'083 heads have relatively small port runners, but they are a little larger than many other factory heads. The real benefit is that the chambers are 58cc. That should increase the static compression on your 350. Whether that will get you to 300 HP is questionable, but it should help with torque production at lower RPM. I'm not sure how well that intake is going to compliment the heads and cam, since I don't have specs on that cam grind.

You are correct unless they are alluminum L98 heads.

It is the 081 305 heads that are 58cc stock.

Sorry. My mistake. I'll bet the aluminum L98 heads have a different casting number, too.

I thought the iron L98 heads were 803? Anyway, I know the alluminum L98 heads are 58cc chambers. Does anyone know for sure what the iron L98 chamber size is?
