Do I need a cam button?

I'm in the proccess of doing a heads and cam swap. I have a hydraulic roller cam that is going in. My question is, do I need a cam button with a roller cam? thanks for your help.

I believe you will. Hydraulic and solid lifter cams have a slight angle to the lobes to turn the lifters in their bores and prevent wear. This has a side-effect of pushing the cam to the rear. Roller rockers have flat lobes and so don't have this effect.

If you have your stock '91 block, there is a thrust plate on the front of the block behind the cam gear that retains the cam. A Cam button will be necessary if you are putting a roller cam in a non-roller (pre-'87) block though.
