CAR WON'T START - HELP!

I'm trying to pull the codes from the computer on my car. Which pins on the diagnostic connector do you have to connect on my '89 formula? is it 6 & 12 or 5 & 6?

And how hard is it to fix the VATS system if it is malfunctioning? Do you have to pull the steering wheel?

go to the nethirdgen.org and go to the link for the sethirdgen.org. they have a picture and what parts to put the clip into. Also, look at this site, thirdgen.org, in the article section i think i remember an article dealing with the vats bypass.

To pull the codes, use the upper two on the top right side of the ALDL...pins are called A and B....

I see no reason to pull the wheel to fix VATs,...unless the contacts in the ignition switch have bit the dust. I'm not sure of the exact location of the VAT's module, maybe someone else can point it out for you, but is probably tucked up under the dash area.

Look at the top row ONLY of the ALDL computer connnector. You want to connect the rightmost two terminals to pull your codes. Remember to connect them with the key "off", and only turn the key to "on/test lights", don't start the car. Nothing bad will happen but you won't go into the diagnostic mode you want.
